Environmental responsibility is everyone’s business, including ours
General Packaging employees believe that environmental responsibility is everyone’s business, from the plant manager and the design engineer to the administrative assistants and truck drivers. It’s up to everyone to be diligent in minimizing our footprint by making good choices — by selecting the most environmentally sound materials and making our processes as efficient as possible, with little or no energy waste.
We work diligently every day to keep our Earth green and renewable. Here are a few of our ongoing recycling efforts.
Corrugated
Across the packaging industry today, new corrugated materials often contain high percentages of recycled content, and we are proud to contribute to that effort. That’s why all our box trim, packaging trim, and miscellaneous scrap is shredded and compressed into 1000-pound bales, shipped to corrugated recycling centers, and then processed into corrugated medium, which is used in corrugated sheets.
Foam
Polyethylene foam scrap and polyethylene foam plank remnants are baled and reprocessed into new foam plank materials. Polyethylene foam trim is used in manmade fireplace logs, and polyurethane foam scrap is often re-ground into other products like carpet pads.
Wood
We routinely collect and shred wood shorts and end trim pieces, which are used for farm animal bedding, mulch, residential building materials like oriented strand board (OSB) sheathing, and even burned as fuel for industrial power plants.
We believe that recycling is good for the environment, and we are committed to the ongoing conservation of our resources. |
